Would a human be able to overpower a chimpanzee?

My friend says that he thinks he would be able to overpower a fully grown, healthy chimp.

I know that these animals are far more powerful than humans, but how much damage could one of them do to a healthy male human.|||Chimpanzees would be 5 to 8 times stronger then your friend. If he's a exceptionally dedicated bodybuilder, then the chimp might be only twice a strong.

"A 165-pound male chimpanzee named "Boma" registered a pull of 847 pounds, using only his right hand (although he did have his feet braced against the wall, being somewhat hip, in his simian way, to the principles of leverage). A 165-pound man, by comparison, could manage a one-handed pull of about 210 pounds."

Add in the chimp's teeth and he's really outclassed.

While they're cute in the movies, they're not domesticated and get more aggressive with puberty. Even trainers will suddenly get attacked without warning.|||The reason why humans are smarter than chimpanzees is directly related for how chimpanzees are stronger than us. We evolved differently because we lived in environments in which we needed to use our intelligence rather than our strength, whereas chimpanzees are opposite.

This is all generally speaking of course, there are occasions where humans are stronger, but on average, theoretically they should be somewhat stronger.|||I am Jim Pan Z.

No not really. Icabod is right. Chimps are in a different league. If he got in a fight with a male chimp, it would probably first rip off his testacles and then bite off his fingers. This happened to someone recently and is a typical thing that chimps do. If he survived that, the chimp might just pound him to death. Your friend is clearly ignorant about how strong they are. They can easily move into the trees and catch monkeys. I am guessing your friend would have a hard time catching a sloth in a tree.|||Your friend sounds like a retard. I think you should take him to the zoo and have him fight one; to the death. For a banana.|||your friend has zero chance.

Similar to the 1st post: I read that a female chimp in a rage pulled over 1,000 lbs on the 1-arm pull. Chimps gouge eyes, bite genitals, there is no way....|||I think his massive increase in height would top the chimps strength. plus could pick up a rock or stick to club it with lol.|||Of course human can. It depends on his height and weight for both humans and chimps.
