yes they can be taught over 100 signs! also mothers will pass on their sign language to their offspring without the help of humans. and chimps will also use sign language to communicate with each other when no humans are around.|||It has actually been done. here's an article about Washoe,the most famous case of sign language taught to a chimpanzee(The great ape project)
